TapOlé Dance Company
The TapOlé Dance Company was formed in the Spring of 2005 by its director and choreographer, Megan Fernandez.
The idea was to create a dance company whose strength would be tap dancing but with a Latin flare. The director sought to assemble a cast of dancers who, first of all, were versed in tap, but who could also perform many dance styles, everything from ballet to mambo, from flamenco to modern, all while still maintaining the main focus of tap.
Megan Fernandez is the choreographer, however guest chorographers are ofter invited to set pieces on the company. The company is currently made up of fifteen (15) dancers, and each dancer has their own specialty, whether it be Flamenco, Afro-Cuban, Hip Hop & Locking, Tumbling, Rhythm tap, or Ballet.
Megan has performed all over the United States in shows such as THE BOYFRIEND (Polly), ANYTHING GOES (Charity), FAME, SUGAR, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and The Grace Theatre Workshop's productions of FRIEND WANTED, COSAS DE AMOR, and STARS & TAPS. Most recently, Megan appeared in the Off-Broadway musical That's Life. Megan performed on the National Television show "America's Got Talent (Season 2)", making it through to the Semi-Final round in Las Vegas.
The TapOle Dance Company recently performed at the Latin Grammy Street Party alongside many famous recording artists. The event drew a crowd of over 22,000 people. The company has also performed at The New York Hilton; the Kraine Theater in NYC; the Ritz Theatre; the Monroe Center for the Arts; the Cuban Parade of New Jersey; the Park Performing Arts Center; the Union City Annual Christmas Spectacular; the Grace Theatre Workshop Spring Gala; various charity events; and a full concert at the José Marti Center for Multi-Cultural Education.
